The Beach Boys are one of the most popular bands in the world, and for the last 60 years, they’ve developed quite a fan base. 1. John Stamos is probably best known for playing “Uncle Jesse” on the hit sitcom of the 80′s and 90′s Full House, but fans of the actor know that he has had a lifelong obsession with the Beach Boys.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here. Unlike many fans, Stamos has actually been up close and personal with his idols, playing drums, keyboards, guitar and singing with the band during various concerts and appearances. He was featured in the video for the Beach Boys song “Kokomo,” and Brian Wilson sang “God Only Knows” at his wedding to Rebecca Romijn.
2. Author and screenwriter Diablo Cody has been quoted as saying she’d like to write a film about the troubled life of Beach Boy Brian Wilson and for good reason. Cody is a lifelong fan of the band. She has blogged about how she met her current husband online through a Beach Boys fan forum. You can’t get much more dedicated than that.
3. When you think of President Ronald Reagan, the Beach Boys may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but as it turns out, Reagan was a big fan of the group. He proved this when Secretary of the Interior James Watt forbid the group from playing a concert in Washington, DC. When Watt was told that President Reagan, First Lady Nancy Reagan and then Vice President George H. W. Bush were big fans and friends of the group, he apologized for not letting them play. The First Lady also apologized to the group on Watt’s behalf.
